If the answer to this question is yes, then you are not alone. Actually, you are one of the 80 million people in North America that snore while sleeping! But snoring, although common, can be detrimental to your health. According to a UCLA School of Dentistry study, "snoring can kill you!" When you snore you are actually struggling to breathe. This struggle can cause an increase in blood pressure which can lead to damage to the wallls of the carotid arteries. This damage causes an increased risk of stroke!

Why do you snore?

Snoring is caused by a vibration  of the uvula and soft palate. When the muscles in your mouth and throat relax while you are sleeping there is an increase in air passing through these soft tissues. The forces of this air cause the vibration, which results in snoring.

Can this snoring be stopped?

Yes, there is help for snoring besides being relegated to the couch! A simple device can be worn at night that reduces the force of air while you are sleeping. All you need is an impression of your teeth for the lab to custom fabricate a device for you to wear while sleeping.
